WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF TOUCAN SYSTEMS

An award for Toucan Eye

Toucan Eye — an innovative device dedicated to people with visual impairment — received the Award of The Polish Bank Association and the “Promyk Słońca” Foundation. The award ceremony took place on 11 June 2019 during the 14th Congress of Electronic Economy in Warsaw.

The Award of The Polish Bank Association and the “Promyk Słońca” Foundation is awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of development of new technologies supporting people with disabilities. This year, the Award Committee has awarded this honorary distinction for the third time.

Toucan Eye has been appreciated for its innovation, pro-social context and support for accessibility principles. The product improves the quality of life of visually impaired people and enables them to participate in social, cultural and professional life in an easier manner.

“We started working on Toucan Eye at the beginning of 2017 and have created a dedicated team of programmers, engineers, mechanics and electronics specialists for the project”, says Radosław Zdunek, President of Toucan Systems Management Board. “We have put a lot of energy and heart into this project, because we believe that it is a solution that will really help visually impaired people. We are all the more delighted that this work has been seen and appreciated by independent experts. The award is a great achievement for us,” he adds.

To see and understand more

Toucan Eye is a revolutionary device that supports the visually impaired in their daily lives. The system allows them to read subtitles in public spaces — it allows to see what was previously impossible to identify.

“The solution consists of a wireless headset equipped with a miniature camera and a mini computer the size of a smart phone. And that’s where the magic happens — the image from the camera is analysed, the data read and processed into the precise voice messages that reach the user”, explains Krzysztof Bork-Ceszlak, engineer, head of the team of programmers working on the advanced algorithm of Toucan Eye’s artificial intelligence.

The device is currently in the final phase of R&D, and will be released at the end of 2019.
